There are many health benefits of lemons that have been know for centuries. Some of the biggest benefits of lemons are their strong antibacterial and antiviral immune-boosting powers, their use as a weight loss aid because lemon is a digestive aid, and liver cleanser. Lemons contain citric acid, calcium, magnesium, vitamin C, pectin, and limonene- that fight infection and boost the immune system.

Cold of Flu Symptoms:
When you feel like you are getting the first indication of a cold, runny nose, or sore throat- give your body as much immune-boosting vitamin C as you possibly can, so that the virus is eliminated before it gets a chance to take hold. Drink the freshly squeezed juice of a lemon in a glass of lukewarm water every 2 hours.
If your have a sore throat, add the juice of 1 lemon and 1 teaspoon of sea salt to 1 cup of lukewarm water. Gargle three times a day for 1 minute to diminish the burning sensation.
Lemons contain citric acid, which is effective in treating acne. Vitamin C found in lemons is vital for healthy glowing skin while its alkaline nature kills some types of bacteria known to cause acne. In addition to drinking lemon juice with water first thing in the morning, lemon can also be applied topically.
With clean hands apply fresh lemon juice with your finger or a cotton ball on the acne and leave it on overnight. Wash with water the following morning. There may be an uncomfortable burning sensation at first but it will soon disappear.

The antibacterial and antiviral healing properties of lemons can accelerate the healing process that causes canker sores. Mix the juice of a freshly squeezed lemon into a glass of lukewarm water and rinse your mouth for 2-3 minutes 3 times per day. There may be a slight burning sensation, however, the more frequently you use it the less it will burn.
If the stinger is still in the skin, take it out with a pair of tweezers. Massage 1-2 drops of lemon oil mixed with 1 teaspoon of honey into the skin and around the bite area.
To repel insects, add 20-50 drops of lemon oil to 1 cup of water and spray into the air and onto your skin.
Drink the juice of 1 freshly squeezed lemon in a glass of lukewarm water after every meal. The lemon acid will stimulate the production of stomach acid and aid in the digestion process.
Varicose and Spider Veins:
Lemon oil has vessel-strengthening properties that can help fight varicose and spider veins.
For spider veins, take 2-3 drops of lemon oil everyday and mix into a small bowl with jojoba, avocado or almond oil and massage the affected area.
For varicose veins, add 6 drops of lemon oil to 1.5 oz wheat germ oil, add 2 drops of cypress and juniper oil. Use this mixture daily for a gentle massage of the legs from bottom to top in the direction of the heart. Also, add 4 drops of cypress oil and 1 tablespoon of honey to a warm bath. Soak for 15-20 minutes and when you come out pat your skin dry.
Lemons contain 22 anti-cancer compounds, including limonene- a naturally-occurring oil that slows or halts the growth of cancer tumors. Lemons also contain a substance called flavonol glycosides which stops the cell division of cancer cells.
Drinking a glass of freshly squeezed lemon water everyday will help to promote overall health in your body, no matter what condition you are trying to treat.
