Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization

Soft Tissue Mobilization

This technique was created from the Chinese medicine technique Gua Sha. Which roughly translates to scraping, they believed this technique scraped away disease by bringing it to the surface. IASTM is blend of Gua Sha and James Cyriax (used deep cross friction massage with hands). David Graston started the IASTM movement with his creation of the stainless steel tools see you see above. He was a machinist who developed carpal tunnel from over use of cross friction massage on his knee injury.

IASTM - Deep Tissue Massage Las Vegas

What is it?

It is scraping the affected area in multiple directions to break up any adhesions or scar tissue in the fascia; this promotes surface circulation and restoring the movement of fluids (nutrients) carried to area and metabolic waste (toxins) carried away. We aren’t creating capillary hemorrhage (deep, dark red marks). We are performing this technique light but still getting our desired results.

The treatment for this technique 15 min, depending on the area being worked and the tonicity of the affected area. An assessment will be done before to create a protocol, during to check progress, and after to assess the success of. You can add this to any massage session or schedule a 15+ min session solely for this technique with Jeanette!
