How to Get the Most Out of Your Massage
Coming to get a massage, whether it’s a regular thing or it’s more of a rarity should always be enjoyable for you. People get massages for various reasons, but no matter what the reason, the goal for us is to ensure you walk away feeling better than when you arrived. I’m going to let you know a few things that you can do before a massage to help us reach that goal and get you the most bang for your buck!
HYDRATING before and after a massage is extremely important. When you aren’t hydrated, often times blood circulation isn’t at its’ best and in turn processes lactic acid and any toxins your skin may create during the massage much slower than normal. Drinking plenty of water helps to flush out toxins easier and even leaves you less achy the next day.
BREATHING is something you may not even think about in the moment, but is something that can help tremendously. Deep breathing during and particularly strenuous and rigorous parts of the massage is a key component of optimal relaxation. Also, focusing on your breathing puts you consciously in the present. Being an active participant in your massage isn’t something most people acknowledge but can help you bring awareness to each part of the body being worked. This helps lead to a fulfilling healing experience, which leads to the next step.
BEING PRESENT is something that is harder for some people than others. It may be tempting to fall asleep or zone out, but remaining present and alert allows the most healing to occur. In order to allow our muscles to release all of the physical and emotional tension built up, you need to make a conscious effort to relax those muscles. This can’t happen if you are not present!
COMMUNICATING EFFECTIVELY is the final aspect of getting the most of your regular massages. Without communication the massage is completely pointless. Only you know what your pain threshold is and only you know what part of your body may need more work than another. If a certain technique is or isn’t working more than another, let us know and we will be sure to take the more beneficial route for your overall betterment.
All of these tips are something to consider before and during your next massage in order for us to get your full potential out of it. As everything in life goes, you get out of it what you put into it. Prepare well and really focus on applying everything stated above during the massage. You’ll be feeling better in no time!
