What is cupping?
The therapeutic applications of cupping has found its place in the modern world of healing. The results that this simple treatment produces are quite amazing. Through suction and negative pressure, massage cupping releases rigid soft tissue; breaks up lactic acid in the muscles, drains excess fluids and toxins, loosen adhesions and lift connective tissue; and bring increased blood flow to stagnant skin and muscles.
Cupping Therapy is a treatment in which the practitioner creates suction in a cup, which then draws the skin up around the cup, under the cup. The traditional method uses fire. Gaeta holds a cotton ball and wets it with alcohol. Then ignites the soaked cotton ball and places it in the cup. Today, practitioners use a plastic cup which uses a hand pump to create the negative pressure.
The effects are remarkable on aching muscles and activate the secretion of synovial fluids, which release joint stiffness in ways not possible using the pressure of traditional massage. It concurrently creates localized expansion of tissue, producing a profound vasodilatation reaction.
