“All that is important is this one moment in movement. Make the moment important, vital, and worth living. Do not let it slip away unnoticed and unused.”
― Martha Graham
From the age of 6 to 24, I was a classically trained ballet dancer who evolved into a modern/contemporary teacher and choreographer. My work became more pedestrian; meaning I took casual, mundane, everyday movement and made it aesthetically pleasing. That is when I became extremely curious. I decided to step out of the dance world to pursue health and wellness for others like myself. I didn’t realize that making this move would catapult me to where I am today. I’m pretty sure that my defining moment happened when I was in high school.
I did a Physics project on the subject of Centripetal Force and how it applied to a dancer, specifically a ballerina who was turning "en pointe" (the ballet shoes you see them wear that allows them to dance on their toes). By far one of the coolest things I have ever willingly decided to learn! I’ve since explored as many sports as possible, either by playing it or watching and studying it. I continue to do this now, by seeking all of my continuing education in sports medicine and kinesiology.
I want to know why people move that way, what the body goes through when we condition it, healthy habits or bad, how we get injured, and what things I can do to make the recovery process better. The human body is a FASCINATING thing we get to own. All that it embodies, whether it is physical or emotional, plays such big role in what it can do for us. Therefore, it is IMPORTANT for us to take GREAT care of it.
